Dave Watson, Second Baseman
Dave Watson, a slender youth of German and Swedish descent, was raised in the streets of Cranston, Rhode Island. After moving to Providence, he compiled a distinguished record as shortstop for amateur "softball" teams including the legendary Field of Drunks. It was with these teams that he caught the eye of the Grays' visionary founder Tim Norton. He joined the Grays as a founding member in 1998, and swiftly established himself as the team's starting shortstop. He has since moved to second base but has also played third base and right field in a pinch. Watson is wide-ranging in the field and possesses a throwing arm that is accurate though not remarkable in strength. He bats from the left side, and is one of the most skilled of the Grays in reaching base by any means available. Though not known for his slugging, he did make a controversial one-hundred-foot home run against the Oceanic Club of Mystic in 1999. On the bases he is fleet of foot, and never hesitates to take the most reckless of chances, with his long flowing locks trailing behind him in the wind. After two years of play, he and Gilligan Faria are the only Grays to play in all twenty-three of the team's games.
