Pete Fallon, First Baseman
Pete "Goose Egg" Fallon joined the team in 1999 and has found a home at first base, where his sure hands have been put to good use in hogging errant throws. Few players in vintage ball are as skilled at digging hard throws out of the dirt with bare hands. He has also played splendidly in the outfield and third base, and has occasionally served as the team's change pitcher for overhand games, serving three times in that capacity in 1999 and 2000. He won a thrilling decision over the Middletown Mansfields on June 27, 1999, by a score of 7-6. He gives up runs in clusters when his fluttering knuckleball ceases to flutter, but when all is breaking well he leaves nothing but a string of goose-eggs upon the scoreboard. Goose Egg is also improving as a batsman, but it is as a fielder nonpareil that his reputation is hung. Fallon comes to the Grays straight out of Little Compton, Rhode Island, where he owns an elegant country estate with his lovely wife. Unlike many of the ruffians in vintage ball, he is a respected businessman in his community. His responsibilities at church often preclude his participation in Sunday games, but he is a welcome presence in the church of base ball on the Grays when he is able to attend.
