Rick Stattler, Outfielder
Richard Stattler has been a fixture in the Grays outfield since
their inception in 1998, and has also filled every other position
at least twice. At age 36, he is not quite so swift as he once was.
His humble contributions to the team generally take the form of
infield singles and old-fashioned hustle in the field, rushing in
to back up plays from the outfield and throwing out runners at first
base on apparent singles. Aside from his well-known difficulties
with hitting and catching the ball, he is an asset to the team.
He is an archivist by trade, and is currently writing a book about
the 1884 Grays. He compiled the biographical notes on the team found
elsewhere on this site, and also serves as the team's secretary
and treasurer.
