 Scott Olson

Scott Olson, Outfielder

Scott Olson

Scott "The Swede" Olson has been a mainstay for the Grays since their inaugural season in 1998. While he initially made his home on third base, he has handled every position on the diamond, and been a credit to each. He has been given periodic trials as an overhand pitcher, and has shown great promise, but has proven too valuable in the field for regular duty in the box. While the Swede is a fine fielder with a tremendously strong arm, he truly shines while wielding the bat. By virtually any measure, he is the strongest batter on the Grays. He reaches base with great frequency and often has no cause to stop at first. He is a superb base stealer, always seeks to take an extra base when presented with an opportunity, and is almost never thrown out on the base paths. The Swede's only weakness is for hitting towering fly outs, but more often than not his flies escape the grasp of the outfielders and roll to the fences for extra bases. Among his most dramatic home runs have been a game-ending home run against the Melrose Pondfeilders in 2003, and a long ninth inning grand slam that sealed the fate of the Elizabeth Resolutes in 2004. Some have called Olson the most powerful hitter in vintage base ball.
